In early May 2008 there was an
interesting challenge at BlenderArtists.org:
to make something just out of ten or fewer cubes or rectangular shapes.
The main rules were:
- no intersections (no object could intersect another)
- gray materials (no textures or shading)
- simple lighting
- include a ground plane (a floor or base on which the scene or object would rest).
This proved to be a fun and productive event for
the Blender community, by far one of the most popular
contests ever hosted at Blender Artists!
Even though it was not conducted as a formal competition,
there was a real challenge in trying to build something
unique out of a limited number of basic shapes, all
while working within the contest's parameters.
